We are constantly being told that physical inactivity, and not making the most of every waking minute in life is the worst thing we can do, so laziness is one of the biggest sins we make every single day.

Yet, this may not be a complete truth apparently. Of course, being active and on the move is a good thing, but living life in the slow line is not a worse choice either.

First of all, even though adults are not encouraged to take a nap in the afternoon, it turns out that napping is extremely beneficial for health. In the same manner, being slow and lounging around is believed to a flaw, but it is far from it.

Studies have shown that it is an excellent way to stimulate your invention, creativity, and motivation.

Let’s clarify things: we do not encourage you to spend your life lying on the couch, watching TV, and snacking, but we convince you that it would be useful to take several minutes of your time and rest when you need it. This will help you be more refreshed and energetic the following day.

We will explain how laziness in good for you, so next time you need to take a nap of sit for a while, you will enjoy the time, rather than feeling guilty about it!

Initially, laziness is completely normal, as humans evolved for lounging since the body is permanently trying to conserve energy.

During the winter, the human body produces more melatonin, so we are sleepy, while in the summer, the heat prevents excessive activity.

Yet, laziness also has mental and physical benefits, and these are the following:

Improves Workouts

Even though this seems a bit counterintuitive, if you are lazy you will not spend the entire day exercising, and you will focus on shorter, but higher intensity workout.

This will leave you enough time to enjoy the day, but it will also get the blood pumping. Studies have shown that shorter, intense workout followed by rest promote weight loss and are much more effective than a long, dull training.

Lowers Blood Pressure

Stress negatively affects the entire body and influences the heart rate and the blood pressure, leading to anxiety. Yet, taking rest, breathing deeply and relaxing the body and mind lower blood pressure and provide peacefulness.

Stimulates Creativity

Numerous people have come up with the brightest ideas while lying and not thinking of nothing. If you let the brain perform its cycle and organize thoughts, it will arrange ideas in numerous new and interesting ways.

On the other hand, trying too much to come up with an idea is often counterproductive.

Strengthens Problem-Solving Skills

If you give your brain some time to find a solution, it will eventually do. This does not mean that you should stay uninvolved and wait for things to happen on their own, but you should determine when it is best to relax the mind in order to restore its optimal power after a while.

Enhances Efficiency

The worldwide known and respected Agatha Christie stated that “Invention, in my opinion, arises directly from idleness… To save oneself trouble,” believing that numerous inventions that ease our life are only a result of laziness.

Also, laziness may force a person to speed up the performance, just to finish it fast and save the time needed for rest. Yet, regardless of the reason, lazy people usually get things done quickly.

Appreciation for the Present moment

Laziness resembles meditation as it also appreciates the current moment. Enjoying the present atmosphere, like the warmth of the morning coffee, smelling the scent in the garden, or looking in the greenery outside, relax us, and help the body recharge.

Supports Reflection

Despite waking up the innovative thoughts, laziness also creates philosophical ideas. While wandering, a person may start solving some complex issues, and find out some more effective methods.

This may also lead to a better understanding of things and people in life.

So, what type of person are you? Are you a workaholic, or you belong to the ones who enjoy staying in bed all day? Are you able to balance your daily tasks and the needed rest to get the most out of your energy?
